A Home Rich in History and Character
In the heart of Fort Worth, Texas, a 5,500-square-foot residence has undergone a stunning transformation, seamlessly merging vintage charm with contemporary flair. Hilary Colia and Jennifer Kostohryz of Fort Design Studio led the gut renovation of the 1948 property, working closely with architect Lisa Teters and builder NH Southern to bring the homeowner's vision to life.
Before the renovation, the four-bedroom, five-and-a-half-bathroom house presented a unique blend of traditional layout and historical elements, including an exquisite anniversary chandelier gifted to the original homeowners. The property had only changed hands three times in its 70-year history, with the current owner inheriting it from a couple who had lived there for six decades.
"The homeowner's directive was to stay true to the style and character of the house," Colia explains. "She has a deep love for color, pattern, and vintage items, so we incorporated those elements throughout the design process."
A Palette of Past and Present
The renovation's largest budget allocation went towards trim and wallpaper, driven by the homeowner's passion for rich hues and bold patterns. "If she could have papered every square inch, we would have!" Kostohryz jokes. The blush pink walls in the great room, crystal sconces, and carved marble mantel add regal touches, while Schumacher drapery in a classic red and blue palette brings a youthful yet sophisticated vibe to the playroom.

Kitchen Revival
The kitchen underwent a complete overhaul, with the designers opting for a portable wooden island from Chairish instead of a built-in one. This choice allowed them to maintain the airy feel of the space. The La Cornue range takes center stage, with a pullout Rev-A-Shelf spice drawer providing a convenient storage solution that delighted the homeowner.
"Everything that isn't new is very old," the homeowner proudly states, showcasing her talent for sourcing rare, high-quality antiques and vintage pieces. These treasures are woven throughout the home, creating a unique narrative that celebrates the past while embracing modern comforts.
From the elegant great room to the playful playroom and the functional kitchen, this Fort Worth residence is a testament to the power of thoughtful design. By blending heirlooms and contemporary elements, Colia and Kostohryz have crafted a space that honors the home's rich history while meeting the needs of a modern family.
