Behr Announces ‘Grounded’ as 2027 Color of the Year
Behr has unveiled ‘Grounded’ (T27-01), a mossy green, as its 2027 Color of the Year, coinciding with the brand’s 10th anniversary of the awards. The selection reflects a growing desire among Americans for a deeper connection with nature, driven by a sense of overwhelm in daily life.
Seeking Solace in Nature
According to data from House Beautiful, 77% of Americans find daily life overwhelming. Nature is increasingly viewed as a refuge from the pressures of social media, work, and the news. Furthermore, four out of five respondents believe home projects contribute to a feeling of grounding.

Color Trend Driven by Observation
Kayla Kratz, head of color at Behr, explained that ‘Grounded’ emerged from careful observation of global design trends and a recognition of the importance of nature in color palettes. “Color starts with observation,” Kratz stated. “We pay attention to how color is shifting across fashion, furniture, materials, and decor, and we spend time in global design markets experiencing those changes firsthand.”

A Decade of Color Insights
Behr’s Color Lab team meticulously developed ‘Grounded’ through dozens of formulations, balancing consumer desire with design trends. The color’s subtle brown undertones complement classic autumnal hues. The company emphasizes its ability to translate emerging trends into specific color choices, prioritizing what truly resonates with homeowners.
Balancing Trend and Resonance
Behr’s approach distinguishes itself by connecting current trends with actual consumer needs. As brands announce their Color of the Year picks, Behr’s strategy appears to be a blend of anticipating trends and responding to the desires of homeowners.
