Design Industry Buzz: Kohler Claude Toilet and Kravet’s Tile Expansion

The design world is buzzing with new launches and collaborations as September and October approach, marking a particularly active period for industry events and book releases. Following a summer pause, the Design Debrief team has been closely monitoring key developments and exciting projects.

Shea McGee’s Elegant Smart Toilet with Kohler

A standout moment was a recent visit to Kohler’s new Utah retail store, where I spoke with Shea McGee about her acclaimed Claude bathroom collection. The collaboration with Studio McGee and Kohler proved particularly noteworthy, with the focus on a smart toilet that defies the often-clinical aesthetic of these fixtures. The Claude one-piece smart toilet boasts traditional lines and a furniture-like silhouette, seamlessly blending into the surrounding space and offering a surprisingly elegant solution. The entire collection, featuring freestanding baths, vanities, and sinks, echoes this understated sophistication.

Another significant development is Kravet’s expansion into the tile market, in partnership with TileBar. The 108-year-old furnishings brand is translating its rich archive of patterns into stunning stone and porcelain tiles. This initial launch encompasses six collections and 34 SKUs, showcasing diverse designs from hand-placed micro-mosaics carved into Thassos marble to digitally printed porcelain recreations of beloved Kravet wallpapers. This strategic move highlights a broader trend of repurposing and reimagining existing materials within the design landscape.
