Milan's fashion scene just got a whole lot brighter. La DoubleJ founder J.J. Martin has transformed a former 1930s wallpaper factory in Milan's Navigli district into Starquarters, a five-story headquarters overflowing with color and a distinctly joyful spirit.

A maximalist vision in a traditionally understated city

The new space, revealed during Milan Design Week, is a bold departure from the city's typical muted aesthetic. Martin, known for her vibrant silk dresses and eclectic homewares, has infused the office with a maximalist sensibility, a deliberate contrast to Milan’s more reserved design traditions. “Milan tends to be very understated,” notes Britt Moran of Dimorestudio, “Her product is completely Italian—it’s all made in Italy—but it’s a little bit more modern. It’s bright and joyous. J.J. has shaken up the Milanese stereotype.”
