Chef Bobby Flay, known for his culinary prowess and passion for horse racing, has expanded his Saratoga Springs presence with a stunning new home steps from the famed track. The Tudor-style property, built in 1938, underwent a stylish refresh by Olivia Jane Design, transforming into a sophisticated retreat designed for entertaining.
A culinary haven with a vintage soul
The design concept, spearheaded by Olivia Capuano of Olivia Jane Design, aimed to capture the vibrant energy of Saratoga while creating a comfortable, welcoming space for Flay and his guests. Capuano skillfully blended vintage finds with modern touches, resulting in a home that feels both timeless and tailored to the owner's refined tastes.
The renovation, completed with less than six months of lead time amid pandemic-related supply chain challenges, focused on enhancing the home's existing charm. The previous owners had already renovated the back of the main level, transforming a small kitchen into a chef's dream with vaulted ceilings and track views. Capuano then concentrated on layering finishes, lighting, and furniture to personalize each space.
A significant investment went into the outdoor area, with a custom concrete slab outdoor kitchen designed by Young Landscaping. The patio footprint was expanded, creating a seamless extension of the interior living space. Inside, white-washed brick walls in the living room provide texture, while a moody bourbon bar offers a secluded spot for after-dinner drinks. The kitchen, the heart of the home for a professional chef, features a bright, inviting palette with custom marble bistro tables echoing a restaurant setting.
Vintage pieces sourced from 1stDibs and Hudson Valley antique shops add character throughout. A 1970s Kaiser Sputnik chandelier, also from 1stDibs, provides a focal point in the bourbon bar, evoking the nostalgia of a golden era cocktail lounge. Capuano’s use of limewash on the foyer and main stairwell adds a layer of sophisticated texture.
The bedroom offers a tranquil escape, with layered neutral textures and filtered natural light creating a sense of serenity. Capuano’s vision was a warm home with a Deco influence, a nod to the home's original era – a goal she clearly achieved. Flay himself raves about the space, describing it as a place he genuinely enjoys spending time.
