Dallas home renovation takes a wild turn: from furnishings to full-scale remodel

What began as a seemingly simple project to refresh a home quickly morphed into a complete reimagining, a testament to the evolving desires of homeowners and the adaptable vision of Dallas-based designer Cynthia Rojas of Minty Synth Interiors.

A client's vision takes unexpected turns

The initial consultation with the clients revealed a desire for updates – new lighting, paint, and wallpaper. But, as Rojas recounts, the conversation swiftly escalated. The homeowners soon envisioned a completely revamped fireplace, an unrecognizable powder room, and a significant overhaul of the kitchen. Two years later, they moved into a home dramatically different from the one they initially inhabited.

The kitchen proved to be the catalyst for this expansive transformation. Rather than a minor update, the space underwent a bold redesign, replacing outdated elements with a quartzite backsplash, custom shelving, and new pendant lights from Allied Maker. The island, now clad in tile, adds depth and reflects light, creating a luxe yet approachable cooking area.

Rojas’s approach wasn’t without its challenges. “We fired a total of four contractors during the project,” she admits, a testament to the complexities inherent in such a significant undertaking. The team experimented with innovative techniques, including a striking terrazzo fireplace surround and a custom marble dining table with sculptural, organic legs – a deliberate nod to balance.

The dining room showcases a custom oval marble table, meticulously crafted to accommodate at least eight guests. The Lindsey Adelman chandelier serves as the pièce de résistance, a fitting centerpiece for a space designed for connection. The primary bedroom offers a sanctuary-like atmosphere, featuring a custom headboard and bed frame alongside carefully curated accessories. A clever wallpaper mural conceals the bedroom door, creating a seamless transition.

The dressing room, tucked away from the main suite, provides a functional overflow space. A custom white oak desk anchors the area, while thoughtful storage solutions ensure a clutter-free environment. The entire home is a reflection of the clients' personalities, with vintage finds and carefully selected art pieces adding layers of character.

Rojas emphasizes the importance of creating spaces that feel both beautiful and lived-in. “Viewing homes as stories,” she explains, “I blend thoughtful design with the comfort of everyday life.” This approach, coupled with a willingness to embrace bold choices, ultimately transformed this contemporary European revival home into a reflection of its owners' evolving needs and tastes.
