Neapolitan doctors redecorate apartment with color psychology
In Naples, Italy, a young doctor couple has transformed their apartment into a vibrant oasis using color psychology principles. Elea and Armando, both medical professionals, sought a space that would nurture and rejuvenate them after long shifts.

Colorful revamp
Architect duo Ciro Scognamiglio and Francesca Sannino of AreaDieci Architetti designed the interior with color as a central element, departing from the modern apartment's neutral canvas. They created a coherent design strategy where every surface and furniture piece participated in a precise color system.
The predominantly cooler tones evoke tranquility and spaciousness, with jewel-like hues bouncing light and connecting spaces. A custom dichroic glass window in the living area refracts different colors depending on the day's variable lighting, making the space dynamic and ever-changing.
Custom furnishings, from oak parquet flooring to built-in navy cupboards and sage-green kitchen units, add to the fluid aesthetic. The Mex Cube sofa, Utrecht armchair, and Soda coffee tables introduce pops of vibrant color, while the fireplace's green ceramic tiles provide a grounding effect.
In the bedroom, a Glamora wall covering adds depth with subtle pastels, contrasting the predominantly black and white scheme. The ensuite bathroom combines contemporary terracotta surfaces with acid green resin for a surprisingly cozy atmosphere.
The doctors credit the joyful interior for balancing and energizing their days. This study in color psychology demonstrates how thoughtful use of color can be a powerful psychological tool, orienting, reassuring, and surprising us.
