Broadway actress Barrett Wilbert Weed has meticulously reimagined her Brooklyn Heights apartment into a captivating Victorian-era haven, drawing inspiration from antique treasures and a touch of spectral influence. The transformation, a collaboration between Weed and Date Interiors, is a testament to the power of layering personal history with theatrical flair.

A dreamy retreat rooted in nostalgia

The 1,100-square-foot apartment, a circa 1900 brownstone, had lost much of its original character to mid-century renovations, prompting Weed to envision a space imbued with a sense of bygone eras. Weed, a self-described “Broadway girlie,” was drawn to the building’s inherent spirit, jokingly suggesting a lingering presence of a 19th-century woman.

Date Interiors, led by Molly Torres Portnof, partnered with Weed to restore the apartment’s grandeur, reinstating period moldings and medallions and blending antiques with contemporary pieces. A key element of the design is the incorporation of whimsical details—a nod to Weed’s childhood fascination with American Girl dolls.

The bathroom, featuring a vintage vanity repurposed as a sink and floral wallpaper, evokes the feeling of a dollhouse, while the bedroom embraces decadent patterns and a curated collection of vintage items. A custom-made quilt and a flamingo wall sconce add to the room's playful charm.
