Beyond neutral: the couple's unexpected design journey
For years, the 3,200-square-foot residence served as a blank canvas. But after years of living in a space lacking personality, Lynskey and Ritter decided to inject their individualities—and a whole lot of color—into their California abode.
Lynskey, known for her roles in shows like Yellowjackets, admits to initial hesitation about working with an interior designer. She had a clear vision, yet feared someone else's vision might overshadow hers. However, a kitchen renovation she managed herself proved to be a stepping stone.
Enter Martin & Brockett, the LA-based design studio led by Jason Martin. Martin quickly connected with Lynskey's adventurous spirit and extensive collection of art. Instead of sourcing new pieces, he honored her existing treasures, particularly those from her time in New Zealand, speaking to her heritage.
The kitchen, personally overseen by Lynskey, boasts emerald subway tiles and custom cabinetry. Ritter, on the other hand, admits to lacking creative flair, trusting Lynskey's instincts implicitly. Ritter did, however, have a strong sentimentality for a sofa inherited from his father, John Ritter, which became a central point around which the design revolved.

A once-confusing downstairs room now functions as a cozy reading nook, while the living room, initially a challenge to arrange, now fosters convivial game nights. The design blends vibrant textiles from sources like Liberty London and Pierre Frey with a curated selection of art, including works by Henrietta Harris and Shepard Fairey.
The bedroom features rich patterned wallpaper, while the bathroom is clad in veined marble. A custom-built cabinet showcases Lynskey's art collection. The Home reflects a deep connection to personal history and shared experiences, resulting in a space brimming with character.
