The redesign, detailed in the latest issue of AD France, masterfully utilizes a layered approach to create an atmosphere of sophisticated warmth. The apartment, located in Paris, exudes a distinct sense of Californian casualness interwoven with Parisian elegance, a delicate balance achieved through carefully selected furnishings and a rich color palette.

The space unfolds lengthwise, a clever layout reinforced by the removal of internal partitions, offering uninterrupted views across the studio. Sunlight floods the interior through five south-facing windows, bathing the ochre, caramel, and bronze tones in a perpetual golden light. A vintage chocolate leather sofa, a 1970s Gianfranco Frattini coffee table for Cassina, and a Carl Fagerlund pendant lamp from 1960 contribute to the room's mid-century modern sensibility.

Interior designer Lauranne Elise Schmitt, known for her work with high-end clients like Christian Liaigre and Peter Marino (Louis Vuitton), embraced complete creative freedom. “I see spaces as theaters to decorate,” Schmitt explains, a sentiment evident in the curated collection of art and design objects. A Jean-Philippe Delhomme print hangs in the bedroom, while a Lohana Saby ceramic bowl graces the bathroom counter. The apartment’s floor, laid in a striking checkerboard pattern of natural black parquet, provides a grounding element to the design.

The kitchen, concealed behind a bookcase, boasts honey-stained oak cabinets complemented by bronze-patinated brass countertops. A custom oak table functions as a flexible workspace, paired with adjustable stools for dining or remote work. The bathroom, clad in Calacatta Selva marble, features a custom mahogany-stained oak vanity and bronze accents, creating a luxurious and sensual retreat. Mirrors, strategically placed throughout the apartment, enhance the sense of space and amplify the natural light.

Schmitt’s approach transcends mere decoration; it’s a carefully orchestrated narrative of materials, light, and form. Even at its current size, the apartment feels expansive, a testament to her ability to prioritize detail and create a sense of flow. This project, she admits, felt almost predestined – the intuitive design didn’t require extensive revisions.
