From blank slate to family heart

Perez O’Boyle, owner of Stephanie Perez Studio, wasn’t seeking a renovation; she was seeking a Home. Nine months pregnant and navigating a recent relocation from New York City to Newport, Rhode Island, the prospect of finding a space near family became paramount. The 1,900-square-foot, 1980s condo presented a challenge – a dated layout and finishes that would deter many. Yet, the abundant natural light and proximity to the beach ignited something within her.

A three-year transformation

The renovation, which began shortly after welcoming her son, was anything but seamless. Imagine a kitchen reduced to a microwave on a folding table, and late-night bottle washes in the bathroom sink. This chaotic backdrop fueled a three-year journey of reimagining the Home, a process intrinsically linked to the joys and demands of early parenthood. Her father-in-law's custom millwork became a key element, introducing the architectural character the condo lacked. The resulting aesthetic blends coastal Americana with European influences, a tapestry woven from memories of Newport, travels through England, Spain, Portugal, and her grandmother’s Home in Colombia.

Kitchen & dining nook: a functional heart

The kitchen underwent a significant transformation, sacrificing square footage to create a brighter, more functional space. A custom pine-stained island anchors the area, while European country charm is introduced through vintage field tiles. He has been actively involved in selecting pieces, transforming the space into a personalized haven filled with cherished items. The room reflects a grounded approach to design, allowing his interests to evolve naturally over time.

Daughter's room: nostalgia and new beginnings

The nursery, completed after the birth of their daughter in 2025, blends nostalgia with modern design elements. Vintage books and a Danielle Kosann Bemelmans Bar painting connect to their time in New York City. A Grimm's Fairy Tales light fixture, a prized vintage find, adds a touch of charm.
